GETTING THERE

DIRECTIONS
FROM JOHANNESBURG / PRETORIA

Please do not type in Simbavati Hilltop Lodge into your GPS. The GPS will either send you to Timbavati River Lodge on the Orpen Road or try and direct you through Kruger National Park which is not the correct direction. Please note you cannot access the Lodge through Kruger National Park but only through the Timbavati Gate as per the directions below.

Simbavati Hilltop Lodge is a six to seven hour drive from Johannesburg or Pretoria. From Johannesburg take the N12 to Witbank/Emalahleni, and continue on the N4. From Pretoria, take the N4 to Witbank. Follow the N4 and turn left to Belfast (off-ramp R33/R540). Once in Belfast, turn right into Voortrekker Street and continue straight with the R540 to Dullstroom. Drive straight through Dullstroom, and continue to Lydenburg/Mashishing on the R540. At the T-junction, turn left into Lydenburg/Mashishing into Viljoen Street (R36). Turn left again into Voortrekker Street. Turn right into De Clercq Street and follow the R36 through Ohrigstad. After the Abel Erasmus pass, the R36 turns left to Tzaneen. Do not turn left here, but continue straight on the R527 to Hoedspruit.

In Hoedspruit, continue straight. After the bridge crossing the railway line, turn right at the four-way stop and continue on the R40 for another 6,4 km. Take the Eastgate Airport / Timbavati turnoff from the R40. On the tar road you will go through 2 control gates. At the second gate you enter the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve where you will pay a Vehicle Entrance Fee per vehicle. Keep your permit as the Lodge will issue you with an exit permit when you return again. Follow the tar road from the Timbavati Gate for approximately 39km, past the turnoff to Simbavati River Lodge and Machaton Private Camp, and continue on the tar road to the Motswari / Simbavati Hilltop turn-off. This is just passed Ingwelala on the righthand side. Turn right onto the dirt road and follow the signs for approximately 12km to the lodge.

Very Important:
Please do not arrive at the lodge late, as you will then miss the afternoon/evening game drive and lunch. Game drive start between 15:30 and 16:30 depending on season. We do not recommend to drive in the reserve when it is dark. If you are going to be late due to unforeseen circumstances, please let us know.
NB: There is no cellphone reception once you turn off the R40.
