About the Lodge 
Makakatana Bay Lodge is the only privately-owned and owner-managed game lodge within the iSimangaliso Wetland Park.
 
Experience this magnificent area from the comfort of our spacious rooms, set on raised decks within the wilderness of the game park.
 
 
About Isimangaliso Wetland Park
 
iSimangaliso Wetland Park is home to vibrant wildlife in the game reserve, within Lake St. Lucia’s estuary and the glorious coastal beaches on the eastern shores of the park. Your stay at Makakatana Bay Lodge is designed around exploring this amazing sanctuary on an open game drive vehicle, on our private pontoon boat, and with your feet in the warm Indian Ocean.
 
We have put together experiences that we will share with you when you stay with us at Makakatana.
 
ACCOMMODATION
 
Guests can be accommodated in 6 spacious suites. Three of these are in the dune forest and are frequented by friendly warthog, red darker, nyala, bush babies, birds, and hippo.
 
One room at the Bay Lodge provides a view out through the forest onto a vlei, and the other has a view through the bush onto the St Lucia Lake. 
The Honeymoon Suite is situated privately with views out onto a vlei. Large windows and terrace doors, as well as mosquito gauze screen doors, slide open onto private viewing decks, skillfully combining luxury and integration with the environment.

DIRECTIONS
GETTING THERE
The Makakatana Bay Lodge is on Lake St Lucia, within the iSimangaliso Wetland Park World Heritage Site, Zululand, KwaZulu Natal.
 
Heading North on the N2:
 
On the N2 from Durban and King Shaka International Airport, head North, pass Empangeni/Richards Bay turnoffs, pass Mtubatuba / St Lucia turn off and keep on the N2 heading North for approximately 20Km.
 
Heading South on the N2:
 
from Gauteng, head South, pass Pongola and Mkuze pass the Hluhluwe turnoff & head south for about another 25 / 30Km - pass the Nyalazi River sign and then.
Lookout for the Charters Creek/ Makakatana turn-off. Follow the tar road for approximately 14Km and keep going straight onto the dirt road towards Charters Creek. About 1Km along the dirt road take the right fork at the Makakatana sign. Keep on the dirt road and follow the signs for another 4Km.
